I care about you, and it shows.
Hi. My name is Susana Field, The Steamboat Springs Realty Gal of Buyer’s Resource (aka The Steamboat Gal).
My personal knowledge of the Steamboat Springs real estate market dates back to the early 1970s, when my eldest brother moved here and bought his first of several homes in the area. Steamboat was a very sleepy ranching and ski town back then.
Since 1993
In 1993, I moved here with my husband John and our one-year old son Cliff. Besides investing in real estate – as do all seven members of my family – my husband and I owned and operated Top Drawer Custom Closets here in Steamboat for twelve years. While we helped organize many of Steamboat’s finest homes, it was our customer service that became the hallmark of our successful business. But closets were not my life-long passion, although I do check them out in every home I enter!
My Real Estate Practice
In 2006 my husband and I sold our business and I dove fully into my love of real estate. Throughout our earlier real estate purchases and sales, there was one main thing that turned me off to the traditional way agents worked with us: that they could not commit their loyalty to us 100%.
So, preferring service and advocacy over salesmanship, after a year and a half of working in a traditional office I chose to dedicate my career exclusively to representing buyers and their traditionally much under-served need of full representation.
Educational Background
I have a Bachelor of Science degree, which, along with my EcoBroker certification helps when looking at Green issues surrounding properties; and a Master of Arts degree in Adult Education, which helps when explaining the intricacies of real estate transactions. And originally from Puerto Rico, I am able to help our Hispanic buyers in their native tongue.
Love of the Outdoors
It’s my families’ love of the outdoors that brought us to Steamboat. I’ve sailed from Sri Lanka to Spain, backpacked the 500 miles of The Colorado Trail with our 7-year-old son, ran the Kongacut River in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and sea kayaked the Bahamas, Mexico and British Columbia.
Love of Community
It’s our love of a tight-knit, safe, fun-loving and deeply-caring community that has kept us in Steamboat Springs. Along with our son’s involvement with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
Our Son the Ski Jumper
When I’m not hip-deep in real estate, or off on family jaunts either locally or elsewhere, you may find my husband and me up alongside the big ski jumps at Howelsen Hill. Our son, Cliff, a ski jumper, is following the Steamboat tradition of being a decorated Nordic Combined athlete (ski jumping + cross-country skiing); he was a two-time U.S. Junior Olympic Champion, and is currently representing the United States in Nordic Combined competitions nationally and overseas. Come to the jumps, watch them fly and help us cheer! We’ll teach you all about it. For a mom’s insider view on raising a ski jumper, here is an article I wrote in 2006.
Helping You
There are many paths that lead one to Steamboat and many reasons that keep one here. Whenever the time is right for you, I’d love to help you make Steamboat your own.
